Background:
Independent Online (IOL) is the biggest news, classifieds and info site on the Web in South Africa with hundreds of local news items and 20 000 classified ads every day. IOL is owned by Independent News & Media along with 14 national and regional newspapers, including most of the country's best-known titles. IOL provides the pick of everything that is published in those papers, including their entire classified advertising databases conveniently rolled into one searchable online pool.
In a deal indicative of the mobile era, Independent Online bought the iTouch mPortal lock, stock and barrel. As part of their highly praised new look and feel, IOL have added this mobile Portal to their offering, allowing their customers, to be up to date at any time, in any location. The mPortal will remain powered by iTouch and will benefit from the rich content that IOL has to offer.
Problem identified by the customer:
iTouch provided content, development, a virtual Call Centre and WAP phone provisioning services to the project. iTouch services were enlisted to create the IOL mPortal, provide content, ensure good presentation, usability and Customer Care services.
iTouch's specialist WAP development team was used to produce all the services (iDevelop). iTouch's iConfigure, was integrated to allow easy setting up of WAP devices (provisioning) by IOL mPortal customers. iTouch's iCare, Customer Care Call Centre, have been contracted to handle all users WAP queries and provide instruction.
